The coin features 22-carat gold, just like every sovereign since 1817, but instead of newly mined gold, it is made from gold recovered from existing items like jewellery and coins. This process not only preserves the quality and purity of the gold but also has a far lower carbon footprint, aligning with the King’s dedication to protecting the planet. The design itself draws inspiration from the historic ‘Carolus’ coins of King Charles I, further connecting centuries of royal tradition.
